Manipuri Dancer

Sweety Das Chowdhury, disciple of Smt. Kalavati Devi (wife of Guru Bipin Singh) and her daughter Bimbavati Devi, is a Manipuri Dancer, teacher and choreographer. Born and raised in Kolkata, India Sweety finished her Senior Course at the Mamata Shankar's school Udayan and in 2010, she got National Scholarship in ICCR and completed her masters in Manipuri dance from Rabindra Bharati University. She has worked for many years as a member of Manipuri Nartanalaya Troupe

 Since June 2013 she has been working under Shadhona's 'Dhrumel' project, teaching Manipuri Dance to the Manipuri Community of Bangladesh. She has directed three productions 'Bongshi Anurag', 'Premamritam' and 'Rathamongol' all based on the Manipuri rituals of Bangladesh. Her conducted production "Radha Ranir Oshthoprohor" was invited in "Khajuraho Festival 2016".

She got the Nirod Baran Memorial award on 2011 and the Natya Tarang Yuva Puraskar on 2013. She got the Anannya award for her inspiring contribution and success in the field of Manipuri dance of the country. Other than India and Bangladesh, she has performed at many festivals in China, German, Romania and received much critical appreciation from the dance critics there. She is a gold medalist in Manipuri dance from India. Currently working as a teacher and choreographer at Shadhona, Kolpotoru, Sweety Das is also conducting a research on the bangladeshi Manipuri community's Manipuri dance.
